Each registered player receives one free token for a root beer or fountain beverage at Blue District Coffee per regular season game. Not transferable / must be used night of.

GENERAL LEAGUE STRUCTURE

Draft league. Goalies will be called up to compete in a fun activity for their order. Then each player that is selected has to come up and compete to choose the next rounds draft order. Players who have chosen a partner or protected player will not have a draft choice, their player will automatically be chosen when it's their turn (they still play for their order in the draft). Players should coordinate partners before registering as only players who list each other will be considered protected.

Non-Checking Play: No bodychecking in Root Beer League to reduce injury risk. Incidental contact is allowed, but intentional body checks will be penalized.

Full Equipment Requirement: Players must wear full hockey gear, including helmets. At this time cages or visors are not required, but are recommended.

Age & Waiver: Participants for the 2026 summer season will be birth years 2009-2017, as well as have an active signed waiver for the current league season by an authorized parent or guardian.

BEHAVIOR AND CONDUCT

Zero Tolerance Policy: Root Beer League will enforce strict policies against unsportsmanlike behavior, including verbal abuse of officials and dangerous play.

Fighting Penalties: Fighting is prohibited.

Respectful Interaction: Players are expected to exhibit good sportsmanship, respect for officials, and positive interactions with teammates and opponents.

Handshake Line: A handshake line will take place at the end of every game. This is a time honored tradition in hockey!

GAME PLAY AND PENALTIES

Game Duration: All games will begin with a 2 minute warm-up. Games will consist of two 15 minute run-time periods, and one 12 minute stoptime period. Play will revert to a running clock during the third period in the event that the goal differential exceeds 5. In the event that the goal differential is closed (to 5 or less), the clock will revert back to stoptime. 1 minute break between periods.

Penalty Structure: Minor penalties will last 2 minutes, and major penalties will be 5 minutes.

Goal Limits: 3 Goal limit per player, per game. No point limit (players encouraged to assist in scoring after their goal limit has been reached). Additional goals scored beyond this limit will not count and could result in a delay of game penalty.

TEAM COMPOSITION AND SUBSTITUTIONS

Team Size: Teams will be composed of 10–18 players.

Substitute Players: Substitutes not currently registered with the league must be approved by league officials for the current game. Substitutes not currently registered with the league must also be requested a minimum of 2 hours prior to the game time.

Unauthorized substitutes can lead to game forfeiture and disciplinary action.

TIEBREAKERS

Tiebreaker Structure: In the event of a tie game, a 3-round shootout will be used to determine the winner. The same player cannot shoot more than once. If it is tied after a shootout, the game ends in a tie, with each team being awarded one point.

No drugs or illegal substances permitted at any time.
